The following instructions are designed for InterActions customers using Windows 95 and our customized Microsoft Internet Explorer 3 installation disks. If you are upgrading from an older version of Explorer, some of the following information will be assumed as default and you may not be asked to enter it. Your computer system must meet some minimum specifications for this installation to function correctly. You must be using at least: 486 DX Computer System, 8 Megabytes of RAM, 50 Megabytes of Free Hard Disk Space and a 14.4k or faster Modem. Please have your account information available during these instructions as provided by the InterActions staff. 1. Close any other running Windows programs. Insert Disk 1 into your disk drive, and press the Start button on your taskbar. Pick Run... then type a:\setup.exe (or b:\setup.exe) and hit Enter. 2. The setup program will proceed to load the contents of disk #1 and then prompt you to insert disks 2 to 5 in order. 3. When the disks have loaded, click Yes on the license agreement. The files will then be extracted on to your hard drive. 4. Pick No when asked if you want to select which optional components are installed. 5. If asked to choose a location for the Internet Explorer files, pick C:\Program Files. 6. During the installation, you may be notified that some of the files being copied are older than those already installed on your system. If so, choose Yes to keep your newer files. 7. When all the files have copied, you will be asked to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Remove any floppy disks from drive A: and reboot. 8. The installation process will continue after rebooting. Be sure to have your original Windows 95 installation CD-ROM or diskettes at hand, as you may be prompted for them. 9. If your modem hasn't been configured for use in Windows 95, the Modem Installation Wizard will also run. Leave the "Don't detect my modem" box un-checked and press Next. 10. Press Next again on the Verify Modem screen. Choose Finish when told that your modem has been set up successfully. If no modem is detected in your system, consult your modem documentation or dealer for further installation instructions. 11. Your system may require a second reboot at this point. 12. If asked for a Windows password upon rebooting, DO NOT ENTER A PASSWORD. Press OK for a blank password, and OK again to confirm it. 13. When the InterActions title screen comes up, press the Install button to finish the process. 1. Plug your modem into the wall jack, and double-click on the Internet icon on the desktop. 2. When the Connect to Interactions box appears, enter your account name and password as provided with your InterActions account. Be sure your login name and password are all in lower-case letters. 3. Your modem should proceed to dial in, and Internet Explorer will start up. The first time you run it, an introductory page from Microsoft may be displayed. Simply press Explorer's Home icon to see our home page. Congratulations! You are now ready to begin "surfing the net." Click the InterActions logo on the Newfoundland and Labrador Home Page to reach more of our popular features such as Search Engines, Hot Links, On-Line Time, Technical Support, etc. 4. To configure your e-mail, press Explorer's Mail icon, pick Read Mail, then Next when the Configuration Wizard starts. Enter your name (eg. In the File menu, pick Send Message to place it in your Outbox, then go back and press the Send and Receive icon on the main mail screen to transfer it to our outgoing mail server. 6. If you wish to read Usenet News articles, the configuration process is similar to that for e-mail. Press Explorer's Mail icon and pick Read News. Information similar to that in step 4 will be requested, and the default news server news.nfld.com should be used. 7. The Mail and News programs can also be run outside of Explorer by pressing the Start button in your Windows taskbar, going up to Programs and clicking Internet Mail or Internet News.
